This album has a fairly complicated history. In February of 2004, I recorded the title track of this work...twice. The original idea was to release the two different versions on a single release on Suilven Recordings, but that idea was rejected. Instead, the first version was released by itself on a retrospective compilation, "04 - 83".

Recently revisiting the original masters, I was curious to see what a composite version of both versions overlaid might sound like. Given that there were only seven seconds difference in timing between the two, and that they both had similar forms albeit differences in the internal "microevents", I overlaid them...and found that the result was actually quite compelling. So with some further processing and remixing of that result, the new version of "November Light" was born.

With this, I've paired two other rather wintry-feeling tracks, both recorded in December of 2006. Again, some further processing and remixing was done, with a few more layers added to the opening track, "The Dimming of the Day". The result is a very satisfying trilogy of ambient works themed around the darkest, coldest months of the year.

Best recommended listening level for this album is actually quite low in volume, somewhere between an active listening level and an ambient background state, to be best enjoyed with falling snow outside a large window at dusk.
